Aim:

The aim of the “GSPC sponsored Two Days Online Refresher Course organized by Institute of Pharmacy, Ganpat University on 21st and 22nd March 2026 is to strengthen the professional competencies of registered pharmacists by providing structured, expert-led sessions on regulatory, industrial, and academic advancements in the pharmaceutical sciences. The program seeks to foster continuous professional development (CPD), ensure adherence to evolving standards of pharmacy practice, and empower participants to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based healthcare services to the community.

Objectives of the Distinguished Sessions

  1. Regulatory Competence To provide clarity on classification and regulatory pathways for medical devices, import–export procedures of drugs, and the evolving framework of Pharmacy Practice Regulation 2015, thereby strengthening participants’ understanding of compliance requirements.
  2. Patient-Centred Safety To highlight the critical role of pharmacists in drug safety monitoring, prevention of dispensing errors, and management of antimicrobial resistance, ensuring safer and more effective patient care.
  3. Industry and Practice Insights To expose participants to practical aspects of drug store management, FSSAI regulations, and AYUSH integration, equipping them with operational knowledge relevant to community and hospital pharmacy practice.
  4. Professional Development To engage pharmacists in expert-led discussions that bridge academic knowledge with industrial practices, fostering continuous professional development (CPD) and readiness for contemporary challenges in healthcare delivery.
  5. Collaborative Learning To create a platform for interaction between academicians, industry leaders, and practicing pharmacists, encouraging interdisciplinary learning and exchange of best practices for advancing pharmacy services in Gujarat.

Executive Summary

The GSPC Sponsored Two-Day Online Refresher Course organized by the Institute of Pharmacy, Ganpat University, was conducted on 21st and 22nd March 2026. The program comprised an inaugural function, eight technical sessions delivered by domain experts, and concluded with a valedictory session followed by assessment and feedback. Compèring and coordination were managed by Dr. Rushiraj Jani (Associate Professor, IOPH), Ms. Ayushi Purohit (Assistant Professor, IOPH), and Mr. Harsh Rathnam (Assistant Professor, IOPH). IT support and technical facilitation were efficiently handled by Ms. Janki Pandya, IT Admin, IOPH.

Inaugural Function (21st March 2026, 10:00–11:00 AM)

The refresher course commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sanjeev Acharya, Professor and Principal, Institute of Pharmacy, Ganpat University. He emphasized the importance of global regulatory harmonization in pharmacy practice. Shri Bharatbhai Baldevbhai Patel, President of GSPC, highlighted the pressing issue of antimicrobial resistance and shared thoughts inspired by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Honorable Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, whose awareness videos on AMR were also displayed. Mr. G. C. Macwan, Additional Registrar, GSPC, underlined the need for continuous updates in pharmacy and the significance of refresher courses. Dr. Praful Bharadia, Principal of Shri S.K. Patel College of Pharmaceutical Education and Research & Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ganpat University, spoke on the importance of such programs in advancing professional knowledge and practice.

Session 1 (21st March 2026, 11:00–12:00 PM)

Topic: Classification and Regulatory Pathways for Medical Devices

Speaker: Dr. Hiren Patel, Director, Mesayu Consultant Pvt. Ltd.

Dr. Hiren Patel delivered an insightful lecture on the classification of medical devices and the regulatory pathways governing their approval and commercialization. He explained the global standards and harmonization efforts, highlighting the importance of risk‑based classification and compliance with regulatory authorities. The session provided participants with practical knowledge on navigating device regulations, ensuring safety, efficacy, and adherence to international guidelines.

Topic: Import and Export of Drugs

Speaker: Mr. Shanmugam Elango Mudaliar, Director, Elmeni Life Care Pvt. Ltd.

Mr. Mudaliar delivered a clear overview of the regulatory framework, licensing procedures, and documentation required for drug import and export. He emphasized compliance with global trade policies and highlighted opportunities for Indian pharmaceutical industries in international markets. The session offered practical insights into overcoming challenges in cross‑border transactions while ensuring product quality and integrity.

Topic: Role of Pharmacists in Patient‑Centred Drug Safety Monitoring

Speaker: Dr. Sandipkumar P. Bhatt, Professor, Department of Pharmacology & Pharmacy Practice, K. B. Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research, Gandhinagar

Dr. Bhatt emphasized the critical role of pharmacists in ensuring patient‑centred drug safety through vigilant monitoring and reporting of adverse drug reactions. He highlighted the importance of pharmacovigilance practices, effective communication with healthcare teams, and patient education. The session reinforced pharmacists’ responsibility in safeguarding therapy outcomes and strengthening public trust in pharmaceutical care.

Topic: Pharmacy Practice Regulation 2015

Speaker: Dr. Ramesh Parmar, Lecturer, B. K. Mody Government Pharmacy College, Rajkot

Dr. Parmar discussed the key provisions and implications of the Pharmacy Practice Regulation 2015, focusing on its role in standardizing professional responsibilities. He highlighted the importance of ethical practice, patient counselling, and continuous professional development. The session provided clarity on regulatory expectations and reinforced the pharmacist’s role in ensuring safe and effective healthcare delivery.

Topic: FSSAI Regulations and AYUSH

Speaker: Dr. Sanjeev Acharya, Professor and Principal, Institute of Pharmacy, Ganpat University

Dr. Acharya provided an overview of FSSAI regulations with special emphasis on their relevance to AYUSH products. He explained the regulatory framework for ensuring safety, quality, and compliance in traditional medicine formulations. The session highlighted the growing importance of harmonizing food and drug standards to strengthen public health and consumer trust.

Topic: Dispensing Errors: Causes, Prevention and Control

Speaker: Mr. Sachin Raval, Senior Manager, Apollo Hospitals International Limited

Mr. Raval discussed the common causes of dispensing errors and their impact on patient safety. He outlined practical strategies for prevention, including system checks, staff training, and effective communication. The session emphasized the importance of error reporting and control measures to strengthen pharmacy practice and ensure safe medication use.

Topic: Drug Store Management

Speaker: Mr. Himanshu Patel, President, Mehsana Chemist Association & Vice President, North Gujarat Zone Chemist Association

Mr. Patel shared practical insights into effective drug store management, emphasizing inventory control, regulatory compliance, and customer service. He highlighted the importance of adopting modern practices to improve efficiency and ensure safe dispensing. The session provided participants with useful strategies for strengthening pharmacy operations at the retail level.

Session 8 (22nd March 2026, 2:00–3:00 PM)

Topic: Role of Pharmacist in Management of Antimicrobial Resistance

Speaker: Dr. Praful Bharadia, Principal, Shri S.K. Patel College of Pharmaceutical Education and Research & Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ganpat University

Dr. Bharadia highlighted the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the crucial role pharmacists play in its management. He emphasized responsible dispensing, patient counselling, and promoting rational drug use. The session reinforced pharmacists’ responsibility in combating AMR and supporting national and global health initiatives.

Valedictory Function (22nd March 2026, 3:00–4:00 PM)

The valedictory session began with a welcome address by Dr. Praful Bharadia, Principal of Shri S.K. Patel College of Pharmaceutical Education and Research & Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ganpat University. Distinguished guests Shri Bharatbhai Baldevbhai Patel, President of GSPC, Mr. G. C. Macwan, Additional Registrar of GSPC, and Dr. Sanjeev Acharya, Professor and Principal, Institute of Pharmacy, Ganpat University, graced the occasion. Shri Bharatbhai Patel appreciated the sessions and acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of attendees, while Mr. G. C. Macwan commended the active involvement of participants. Dr. Sanjeev Acharya expressed his appreciation for the rich content shared by the speakers and authors. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Rushiraj Jani, Associate Professor, Institute of Pharmacy, Ganpat University, recognizing the collective efforts that ensured the success of the two‑day refresher course.

Assessment and Feedback (22nd March 2026, 3:30–4:00 PM)

The assessment and feedback process was conducted through the GSPC portal. Dr. Rushiraj Jani guided all participants in completing the evaluation, which comprised 20 MCQs displayed online. He also provided clear instructions on accessing feedback and downloading the course completion certificate. This ensured smooth participation and successful closure of the refresher course.
